〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉

CHARACTER NAME: The Red Plains Rider
CHARACTER AGE: Unknown, but probably in her 30s
SERIES: Sparks Nevada: Marshal on Mars
CHRONOLOGY: Just after the events of Wild, Wild Quest
CLASS: She will choose Hero after learning about such things as classes, but more to feel out if it is appropriate for her. A strategic move until she feels she can trust this set up.
HOUSING: Random housing

BACKGROUND:
Her family came to Mars when she was a baby and something happened to them leaving her orphaned. She doesn't know exactly what happened to them all these years later, but they probably met their end by means of outlaw robots or lizard men. She was taken in by a Martian tribe and eventually given the designator G'rop N'go-goth, which basically means, "She Who Came To Us From the Earth, But Who Is Accepted as Our Own and Who Shall Be Betrothed to Our Youngling, Croach the Tracker". Later on, she took on the name the Red Plains Rider after she began to, yanno, ride on the red plains of Mars. Most folks call her Red.

Despite growing up with the Martians, who are stiff, unemotional (though not necessarily cruel) beings she still retained her humanity, most notably human emotions. As she got older it became more difficult to marry her two sides, and she left the tribe to find herself and her independence. On her travels she met the second marshal of Mars, Dale Treamain, who set her down the path of doing good but also gave her the knowledge she didn't need neither Martian nor human, thus she went down the road of being a lone-riding vigilante, tracking her quarry over the red plains she calls home. However, she and Croach met again some years later and they embark on a romance that didn't go too well due to his inability to feel--or his inability to admit to having feelings. They broke up and she traveled on her own again.

Soon after she met the third marshal of Mars, Sparks Nevada, and she started a brief fling with him but couldn't keep up a serious relationship because she was still raw from the break up with Croach. He offered her the position of deputy so they could work together, but she turned it down and left town to continue doing what she knew best: riding the plains on her own, hunting her man.

After that, Sparks saved her and Croach's tribe from a flood, thus putting the whole tribe under onus to Sparks, something Martians take seriously, and in order to pay back the huge onus they gave him Croach the Tracker to aide him. So, fun enough, her two exes now work together! She sometimes joined them in finding bad guys or having drinks at the saloon or what have you, but for awhile she tried to keep everything a business relationship with the two of them.

However, over time she started to feel regret over how she left both the relationships, and she returned to them to apologize and figured she would attempt another go with Sparks, much to Croach's displeasure. However, after a run in with a robot outlaw with a science gun that turned Sparks inside out, she and Croach went off to retrieve the gun in order to save the marshal's life. She succeeded in getting that gun by shooting it out of the robot's hand, but the gun gets dropped among giant spiders. Croach retrieves the gun, but got caught by the spiders and dragged to their nest for some fun egg laying in body times, but insisted instead of Red saving him she hurry back with the gun to save Sparks who was going to perish soon from the inside-outedness. She does return, though it pained her to do so, and saved Sparks, whose first concern upon being returned to normal is for him and Red to kiss, despite her telling him that Croach needed their help. She eventually got him to go with her to save Croach, using the gun to turn him inside out to release him of the spider young so they won't eat him, but due to Sparks selfishness in the face of Croach's unselfishness she tells Sparks nevermind of getting back together with him and chooses Croach instead.

Croach leaves Sparks at this time to spare him the hard feelings, and he and Red travel together for some months. She assumed they were having a good relationship, calling each other pet names like "Red One" and "Blue One" and frolicking at waterfalls and such, but Croach began to avoid her and return to working for Sparks. Their physical incompatibility and his lack of emotions (or, again, his suppressing of emotions) made it difficult for him to be with her, and they break up once again, which totally sucked for her. She toyed with rekindling the romance with Sparks, but he was afraid it would just be a repeat of before, so he set her up with Cactoid Jim, sending them off together to guard a Stage Coach of businessmen. It worked quite well after they had a tidy adventure of shooting many robots and other sundries, and eventually she and Jim marry.

Cactoid Jim became the Mayor of Mars, and soon set his gaze to becoming the President of Earth. An incident arises, however, where Murdermen start attacking regular men, turning humans into, well, murderous Murdermen that kill and bite without thought. Jim, along with a live TV crew, goes to help an engineer that had escaped a rocket overun by Murdermen, but turned out there was an infestation even there, and the engineer's daughter was bit. The daughter begged to be taken out before she changed, but Jim's adviser told him it wouldn't be good for his campaign for him to be filmed shooting a teenaged girl, so Red did it for him, taking pity on the girl and being a stalwart enough woman to do it with little hesitation. Unfortunately, this made Red into a wanted criminal, and as she goes on the lam on Mars, Jim is forced to divorce her to keep a good reputation.

She goes into hiding in the hidden city of Rococoo, under the protection of its leader, her old mentor Dale. While all this was going on, Sparks lost his badge to a robot named Techs, and took up bounty hunting with his ex-turned-rekindled girlfriend Mercy. It was going quite well until they got a new bounty for the Red Plains Rider. He doesn't want to hunt her, but figured it would be okay if they take her in alive. However, things get complicated and potentially violent between, well, all of them, and Sparks, misunderstanding Mercy's words, thinks Mercy is going to shoot him so he shot first. Croach, who is out of onus from Sparks but now under onus to Mercy, jumped in the way of the bullets, which isn't unusual for him to do since his nanotech would just heal him, but this time around he had become an alcoholic which made his nanotech inert and he actually died.

Sparks and Mercy break up, and Sparks stayed with Red in Rococoo for some months. She took comfort in him during this mourning period, and they eventually figure they have to get back to living life and go to get Sparks' badge back from Techs. They succeed, and she worked off her sentence for the killing by being a deputy for Sparks briefly. The Murdermen infection made its way to Mars some time after that, turning her and Sparks and others into Murdermen, but they are saved by the brave and awesome actions of the Troubleshooter.

After all that, Red realized she was still truly in love with Jim, so goes off to find him again. She eventually tracked him back to Earth, but she also found Sparks and a newly resurrected Croach who now possessed the omnipotent Force Galatic. Sparks was there to kill Jim based on Croach's knowledge that if Jim became President of Earth he would become corrupt and horrible, horrible things would happen in the future. Croach showed her the same vision, and she agreed to the assassination, but Sparks had cleverly let Jim in on the same knowledge so Jim would choose NOT to run for President and thus stop the future from happening. Red and Jim still have feelings for each other, but by this point of time Jim had remarried to the famous Earth novelist Rebecca Rose Rushmore.

Some months after that, Red showed up again to tell Sparks and Croach she was pregnant, though she didn't know if it was Sparks or Jim's. The child appeared to be Sparks from a DNA test, but when the girl was born it was revealed she was actually a child that a Jupiter spy had put in her to incubate, and it only appeared to be Sparks' baby because Jupiter spies can not only copy a person's appearance but copy their DNA signature. But, yes, the child actually wasn't either of theirs, which also, yanno, kinda sucked.

And yet more exciting things occur. Like saving Cactoid Jim from being trapped in carbonite and being used as a coffee table from a space crime lord, and rescuing many slaves at the same time. She returned home to Mars, where she then helped to stop a corrupt plan from the new President of Earth who, as it turned out, wasn't cut out for the job, either. Through a series of bad decisions, he wound up uploading his consciousness to the Earth's moon, which was mechanical, but the USSA was coming to stop him so he was trying to take over Mars, which had tech inside it, too, but tech for warring, to fight the USSA and possibly destroy Earth.

Feeling the effects of all these rough personal adventures, she looked back to her Martian roots and began to study their holy scriptures. She intended to take the Martian trial called the Hee-Ros K'west (obviously not "Hero's Quest") in hopes to ground her identity and find meaning in all the shit she had gone through over the years. After studying for awhile, she took the trials with Croach as a guide and Sparks as a witness, and despite Sparks' (unintentional) meddling through most of it, she performed the last trial on her own and came out triumphant and was declared a success. She was bestowed the blessing of Nah Nohtek, and now, much like Croach and other Martians, will heal when injured. She is pulled into the game after this.

A lot of her history does unfortunately revolve around many romantic twists and turns, seeing as "Sparks Nevada" is a parody of spaghetti westerns and female leads like her usually are in such situations, but despite that she is actually a capable person, a great fighter, and a well-rounded character.

PERSONALITY:
The Red Plains Rider can seem gruff and distant, and she sort of is, being an independent person who has spent most of her adult life traveling on her own. Despite her independence, she can be troubled by feelings of self-doubt and not truly belonging to neither Martian nor human, however she recently embarked on the Martian maturation ceremony to get back to her Martian roots in order to make sense of the past couple of tumultuous years, and it seems to have helped solidify her identity more and is leading her to new thoughts and feelings about life and certain people, namely those of her past romances. At the point she's taken from, though, she still hasn't yet quite come to any clear epiphanies, but she is traveling down the path of self-realization as she had hoped the trials would take her down.

She is very loyal and has a strong sense of justice, which comes in handy being a vigilante. She can be kind in her own way, but she isn't the biggest bleeding heart in the universe, and when it comes down to making gritty decisions she isn't one to being indecisive and can carry out unsavory tasks readily. As shown with Cactoid Jim when she agreed he needed to be assassinated to save the future, even if she loves a person she is able to make hard decisions involving them if hard decisions need to be made. She is also quite stubborn and hard to sway when she makes up her mind.

Despite her stoniness, she will show some panic if her friends or loved ones are in danger, but she is still able to do what she needs to even in those moments. But it shows she is not a cold-hearted being.

She also generally doesn't show overt affection--unless it's her boyfriend, then she does get somewhat giggly and touchy-feely with them--but one can usually tell if she's taken a liking to them by the tone of her voice and how she speaks to them, which isn't as dry or curt.

She is level-headed, stubborn, courageous, and is considered one of the greatest heroes on Mars and many think highly of her. Croach, in fact, counts her as the #1 finest human he knows, which is possibly a high honor, if one cares about his quantifiers.

POWER:
1] Nah Notek (Nanotech) -- She has those handy little robots in her body that keeps it in tip top shape. As a result she is very hard to kill, and injuries, even very grave ones, heal up rather fast, though she feels the pain of the injury and it's always great. Alcohol, unfortunately, makes the nanotech ineffective. They can also be infected with other nanotech that mean to do her harm, but an EMP could take out the foreign nanotechs while the Nah Notek survives. [Canon]

2] Unlimited Ammo -- Any gun she's holding she will have unlimited ammo and will have no need to reload. [Non-canon]

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[As the video comes on, it's shaky but not from unfamiliarity with the technology, but because she appears to be trying to shake something off from off camera. She's glaring down at the ground, and the video turns on in the middle of her reprimand:]

--mon, git! Git, ya li'l--!

[She huffs a frustrated sigh that blows some loose red hair from her face, and she pays attention to the camera. As she talks, though, she still is obviously trying to kick something off or away.] Howdy, y'all. Now, like most'a you, I ain't from this place, so I hope you understand if I ain't usin' this here communicator what it's supposed to be used fer, but I need some help.

Now, I ain't one to usually ask fer help, havin' been on my own fer most'a my life and doin' perfectly fine, thank you. But durin' that time I also learnt that sometimes you jest gotta ask fer help and there ain't nothin' wrong with that, and this is one'a those times.

[A pause as she moves the camera to point down at her feet where a roomba is bumping up against her foot and moving in a way that would be similar to an overly affectionate cat rubbing against a leg if the roomba could reach that far. She kicks at it, making it back up, but then it's right back on her foot.]

This durned thing won't leave me alone. I woke up to it suckin' up the sheets tryin' ta git into bed with me this mornin'! This can't be normal, can it?
